Wall Flower

April 16th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

there are those
who seek the bright light
and attention
thrive on the thrill
of being seen
and suck up all
the energy comes their way.

others shy away
from the intensity of scrutiny
don’t want can’t use
all that attention
and would shrivel up
and die under the spotlight
preferring quiet beauty.

A Wild Visit

April 09th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

she announced herself
in the early morning
as if in a dream

but wasn’t satisfied
with that.
she wanted

to be recognized
and appreciated
for who she was

not a peacock
and not a songbird
either, calling

for her mate
with a quarrelsome
unmistakable voice

playing hide and
seek between the garden
and the rooftops.

Shy Beauty

April 02nd, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

Sometimes a real beauty

doesn’t want and can’t stand

all the attention

the ooing and aahing

and silly questions

not worth answering

preferring the quiet

inaccessible places

where appreciation

is limited to those

who seek out beauty

for its own sake.

The Light of the Sun

March 12th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

Evening Primrose

The light of the Sun
can be Seen even
on a cold cloudy day.

Its rays shine from
each petal of each flower
reaching upward

to drink warmth
and wisdom and
display their charms.

I Remember Summer

March 05th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

After several days of sun
I remembered to water the garden.

While I was standing there
with the hose in my hands

I looked at all the weeds
watered by the rainy days past.

But I remember Summer
when winter remnants

were cleared and seeds planted
and plenty was the theme every day.

Parsley in Winter

February 27th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

parsley.jpg

Even when there is mulch
and greyness
rain for days
and cold weather

there are herbs
in the garden
waiting to bring
spring into your salad.

Leaf and Flower

February 06th, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

leafandflower.jpg

You can tell beauty where to go
encourage beauty to enter
make a reservation

but even while you make plans
cover the cold land with a blanket
look for beauty in the spring

she decides where to go
where to show her true desire
and when as if divined from heaven.

Blue

January 23rd, 2008 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

blueberries.jpg

What kind of a color
is blue for a berry?

Maybe they’re blue
because it’s cold.

Or maybe they’re blue
because they know

that even though they
take their sweet time

from flower to fruit
they won’t last long

cuz a blue blueberry
tastes so good to so many

people and creatures of
the skies and backyards.

Sage

Sage

A wise man
resides
in deserts
and meadows
nestled among
hardy plants
imparting
wisdom
healing
cleansing
rebuilding
as one,

gaining
in strength
in stringent
conditions.

Fuchsia

December 19th, 2007 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

fuschia.jpg

Fuchsia might be
the way to say
purple but not
all fuchsia are
purple and red.

Pink fuchsia have
reputations
for being a
little lacking
in brightness but

what they lack in
intensity
they make up for
with subtlety
delicately

ringing bells heard
only by you.

ancient spirit

December 12th, 2007 | Category: Welcome To My Garden

garden.jpg

ferns are older
than flowers
and people
reaching back to
when the world
was watched over
by spirits
now camouflaged by
overgrowth
and ignorance
of the ages
