No Thanks, Giving
November 26th, 2008 by russ golata · No Comments
The premise of this holiday
Is a wonderful thing.
No pretenses and ceremony
Just Families gathering
Thanking Creator for his gifts
Under the Skin of this Turkey lies a spoiled heart
All the arguments in the world
Will not bring one person back
In 1492 –when Columbus sailed oceans blue
Some say 12 million, some say 112 million,
Native peoples lived in North America
By 1892 there was only 4 million left
Under the guise of God and the red white and blue
The most evil genocide in the history of the world
The silence of history books can’t mask our shame
History books packed with lies
Yet we celebrate in place of remembering
The language of hatred that still clouds minds
Redskins, Indians, and Warriors are all there
Staring us in the face like our nose in a mirror
If we couldn’t outright murder them we killed their culture
Punishing them for speaking their own language
Forcing them to live like we do, like a Star Trek movie;
Assimilate to the Borg or be destroyed.
My only hope is that a day will come when Thanksgiving
Will be a day we raise a toast to the future
Yes be thankful for all life has given us
Beg for mercy for the sins of our past
