Artbridge™ is an organization created by artists for artists, whose purpose is to develop,
curate and showcase works of large format art for public display and enjoyment.
Through Artbridge, artists have the opportunity to exhibit their work to a wider public
audience including the casual observer and art enthusiast alike. All projects are large scale,
sometimes taking the artists into unfamiliar territories and bringing new and interesting
influences to communities.

Artbridge takes the experience of art beyond gallery walls and moves it onto the street
where it can be fully experienced. In a city under constant construction and redevelopment,
Artbridge installations attempt to interact with pedestrians in a new way, bringing light, color,
form and beauty to our daily outdoor world.

Depending on your personal history and what your “achievements” have been, your emotional response to the question “what do you do?” will shape your answer. You might feel pride, and anxiously await the next question so that you can blast your latest career triumph to the world. Because if you are an arts professional and have a successful career, possibly you should be very proud of your accomplishment. Or maybe just grateful. You might feel like maybe you are not good enough, or just embarrassed, or remember you don’t have a pension fund like the person who just asked you that probably does.

managing editor on "spoken word festival in Vallejo"

I love the idea of a poetry festival. They fill stadiums for poetry at the international poetry festival in Medellin.

It's my experience that in Vallejo, there seems to be a shortage of people willing to do the hard work consistently to pull something like that off. You would need a hard working committee to commit and work on a project like this a year ahead of time. The closest thing to a spoken word festival in Vallejo that happened that I know about was the Listen & Be Heard Poetry Marathons, which pulled poets and listeners from around the bay area. Unfortunately we got little press coverage for these events.

A Solano County spoken word festival? That might cast the net a bit wider for organizers as well as participants.

I have joined Vallejo Community Access Television because I want to create television programming. I want to create top quality programming however! I have not as yet seen much of that on VCAT, but I intend to provide some. The biggest problem with the shows I've seen so far has been the sound quality, followed by video quality. In order to get started, I need a production crew of about five or six people.

My intention is to create a variety of arts programming, from poetry to storytelling to interviews and previews, similar to the arts programming that I used to do on Pacifica Radio. Would you like to join me behind the camera, at the board, doing admin?

Do you have questions, comments, experience? Let's get the ball rolling!

I have been writing poetry since I was a teenager, (about thirty or so years now...) and have yet to enter a poetry contest. For some reason the idea offends me especially when there is a fee to enter. Yet, there are many contests, so there must be people entering them.

Are you one of those people? Have you ever won a contest? How much money have you spent entering contests? If you won, did any further good come of it for you?

I am very interested to know the answers to these questions. Alternatively, I wonder if there is something different from a contest that poets might come up with themselves to promote poetry in general. Is the poetry slam the alternative to the poetry contest?
