Mescaline
by christopher barnes
because girders are a ruse
it follows glass
                    is the agency
                    of the motion
                    of composition
purse strings inc.
walk/donÍt walk
smacks of the bottom line
the corporate imagination is spindle-legged

that steel is not extramundane
is true
Midas is his own atonement
from that cause food stamps serve an end
and so to raise an eyebrow reflects:-
                    Betty with store-bought hair
                    stalls of off-white flowers
                    G.I. Joes with fidgety feet
                    a bank of sulphur dioxide

yuck to the Chrysler building
yuck to the Chrysler building
yuck to the Chrysler building

my motherÍs self is Dinah
for the first time we shall
irreversible saturate
the stroppy
postscript of a poem
with such a name
